Death of a Camera
Feb 13th, 2007 by jennie
That’s right. My camera bit it this morning. I don’t know what happened, it just wouldn’t turn on. I thought the batteries might have died, so I recharged them. No go. I called Canon and they confirmed what I suspected. With no trauma and little prolongment, my camera (at the ripe old age of two) quietly passed away. Fortunately, Canon has this really terrific upgrade program, so for a minimal (ahem) fee, they will be sending me a new camera, which will hopefully arrive before the week is out. In the meantime, it’s all words here at twinknit.
It’s a shame the camera chose today to die, because I had two of the cutest FOs for you, in anticipation of V-day tomorrow. For the record, I’m among those who dislike Valentine’s Day. And no, it’s not because I’m single (although that really really doesn’t help, especially not this year). I dislike holidays that force (or create the expectation of) commercially expressed affection. And I’m also not a big fan of pink, and the drapery of the world in pink and red for the month leading up to February 14th makes me feel a little nauseous. I could handle Valentine’s Day better if it weren’t smack dab in the middle of the dreariest month of the year, the time of greatest impatience, the month that makes me clench my fists, shut my eyes, and try to plough through as quickly as possible without stopping until I get to March, which truly carries promise of spring. I’m cranky in February (can’t you tell?). As you know, this has been a particularly bad winter for me, so in anticipation of further V-day related blues, I knit two projects that were guaranteed to make my heart swell at the very sight of them. The first, a gift for a friend (who received it today and loved it as much as I could only have hoped she would) will be revealed when I find myself a camera. The second was inspired by this pattern (and these FOs). God, they’re so cute they just make me smile. I carried them in my wallet all day today so that every time I started to feel sorry for myself in the onslaught of V-day wonder that is the real world, I could take them out and giggle. And no, for those of you wondering, there are no small people in my life, nor is there any promise of small people in the near future. I just wanted a quick knit that would make me feel good (and possibly get me out of second sock syndrome land? we’ll see).
Crankiness aside and in the spirit of love (which I think is a good thing, by the way, ’cause it’s never a bad thing to tell people you love them), Happy Valentines Day! I hope you all have beautiful days with those that you love.
I leave you with some Kentucky project spectrum white/grey/blue.

A camera upgrade program, you say? How interesting… since I have a camera I killed the screen on….
And don’t you love how fast baby socks knit up? And they’re just so tiny and delightful.
So sorry to hear about your camera! But it will be fun to have a new camera… I’m with you on Valentine’s Day - UGH. Thanks for the link to those tiny baby socks! They’re adorable.
Happy non-holiday day to you.
Love the new blog - congrats!
I understand the baby socks, I don’t know any little guys, but I’ve been dying to knit this sweater. Maybe I can make one for my sock monkey.
Nice photo, btw. I’m originally from that area in Kentucky, I actually love the pale dove colors of February–gray, brown, mauve, and blue/white. I prefer loving them from afar, though! :o)
