UFO - February (and a new WIP)
Feb 19th, 2007 by jennie

Tada! My UFO- Challenge for February. This skein of Schaefer Anne was well on it’s way to becoming a lace Clapotis before I lost interest in it. Last night, I pulled it out and ripped it back. Now it’s waiting for the perfect pattern. (Notice, I’m taking care of all the “easy” UFOs first…ripping out is easy. Finishing is another story).
To celebrate the resolution of a UFO and because I think I lost the squirrel of my squirrel and oak mittens (and February is not a time to be mitten-free) I started a new one.

Once upon a time, I thought I hated corrugated ribbing. What a lie — I love it. I could not put this down last night. I started at 11 p.m. and look where I am now! Working with multiple colors is fun — I can’t wait to see what happens next. Weaving in all those ends is gonna be an excercise in patience, but I think it’s worth it. I know I could knit the ends in as I go. I tried that the first few colors, but I thought it looked sloppy and the tension got weird. I’d rather have an even fabric and a quicker knit and have to weave ends in at the end than slow down and have it look sloppy to save myself a few minutes in the end. Of course I say this now… the real test comes when I have a completed mitten with a million loose ends!
Alas for the squirrel!
I did a fair amount of ripping myself over the weekend - love the freedome.
Your corrugated ribbing is gorgeous…
OOOH! So pretty. I started a couple of colorwork mittens and it is addictive. I would SO much rather be doing that than, say, studying civil procedure.
I love that large, balanced ball of yarn. And the blues and browns in the mitten cuff is delightful!
You take such gorgeous photos. What’s the trick? The light? The location? Your skill? Your knitting? It’s a pleasure.
I love the colors of your new minutes. They look perfect together! You do take beautiful photos of gorgeous knitting.
Ai yi yi, don’t talk to me about the lace weight clapotis. That ball of yarn on the end of my own example hasn’t gotten any smaller for about a month now, even though I keep knitting away…
Anyway, the mittens are divine.
