The Kindness of Knitters
Mar 13th, 2007 by jennie
A few weeks ago, I kind of unwittingly entered a contest over at Through the Loops. Lo and behold, while in Pittsburgh I checked my e-mail to find that I had won! This is my first contest win and it definitely came at a good time, because yesterday I went into the department for the first time since arriving back in town and was greeted by this:

It contained some serious goodies. Like this:

[my camera just refused to capture the beauty of this colorway — Toscana #55– but Alison did a great job photographing her recently acquired skein, so check it out].
And this:

[delicious Lemongrass soap from fellow Philadelphian, Knitting Philistine]
And this:

[Yum]
And a chibi for my darning needles, which unfortunately escaped to my knitting kit unphotographed, and now it’s too dark.
*sigh* Knitters are good.
I’ve been dying to try Colinette Jitterbug, after reading about it everywhere. And now I have seriously the most beautiful color to play with. Thank you, Kirsten! This was the perfect gift at the perfect time.
On other knitting notes, I entered Sock Madness, and have already been eliminated. I just couldn’t move and knit a pair of socks in two days (two days is how long it took for my division to fill up). I’m just not much for competitive knitting. But I do get all the patterns still, which will give me plenty of sock yarn fodder, since I received some more gift yarn today from the infamous Jellybean. But that’s another story for another time. I’m tired and it’s too dark for pictures anyway.
Lest you think it’s all culture shock and overwhelm here, what with the move and all, I leave you with one of many reasons I’m glad to be back in Philly. Check out this isle in my local grocery store. “The people’s choice” is right!

Congrats on the contest - you definitely got some wonderful things.
I love that sign from your grocery store!
Ooh, nice prizewinnings! I got some Jitterbug from Catrin and it is sooo soft and fabulous. I can’t wait to knit it! I’m just trying to decide what might be a good pattern for it.
I ABSOLUTELY love the picture from the grocery store. That indeed is a benefit of living in a city. The diversity of people, food, music, etc. is really stimulating. Brazilian foods. Hearts of palm. Yum.
How funny that we got the same yarn! I’d never even heard of the JitterBug before, but when I saw it I had to have it. And it’s SO much prettier in person.
The grocery store sign is awesome. Have fun settling in.
I’m so glad the package got to you safely and that you are enjoying its contents! The Jitterbug colorway just looked like something you would like based on the socks I’ve seen on your blog.
Megan’s soap is so wonderful. I only feel a little guilty turning you on to it. You may find it difficult to live without once you’ve tried it!
Delurking. Wow, I received a skein of Toscana in the mail yesterday too! It really is hard to show the beauty of this colorway. It’s like trying to photograph the Grand Canyon. I blogged about it yesterday too. The dark chocolate with cherries and almonds is one of my favorites. Dagoda dark chocolate with blueberry and lavender is alos pretty awesome. Much more subtle tasting than it sounds. I’ll bet you can buy canned corn fungus in your supermarket (I forget what it’s called in Spanish) Cool!
Wow, that Kirsten is a dear… look at all those goodies! YUM (to the choco and the yarn). Hope you enjoy the soap, too–it’s nice to see Kirsten spreading the love around!!
Congrats! Aren’t contests fun? I should have another one of these days . . . Lovely winnings.
You have alot of kindness to answer for yourself, missy. (Mwah! Thanks! A proper thanks is on the way!!)
