Sunday Morning
Mar 26th, 2007 by jennie
*ETA: I tried to post this this morning… now it’s more of a “Sunday Evening” post. Oh well. I’m definitely getting on that internet action tomorrow. This is worse than dial-up!*
This afternoon, I’m going to a bridal shower for my friend Anna. I offered to make cookies (good motivation to finish unpacking my kitchen-ware) and so it seemed like as good a time as ever to show you my “new ” kitchen.

It’s still a work in progress, but those shelves help a lot. I put up some bars on the other wall to hang things like dishtowels, measuring spoons, coffee cups, etc. I’m half way there when it comes to my desired kitchen organization (my friend Jennifer says I have more kitchen stuff than any other unmarried person she knows), but it’s a start. And definitely enough organization to make these:

Mmmmm… spicy chocolate cookies. There’s just nothing in the world quite as good as cayenne pepper and chocolate (if you like spicy, that is). The receipe was given to me by a friend in Kentucky, although I don’t know how she acquired it. But man, it makes some tasty cookies. So this morning I had cookies for breakfast, along with this:

Yet another reason I’m glad to be back in Philly: Unpasteurized milk from my neighborhood farmer’s market. Yum.
And, lest you think there is no more knitting in these here parts, I’ve started and ripped a few socks, one of which the kitties did for me. I knew the pattern wasn’t working, but wouldn’t admit it. I’m glad they did it for me (although I wish it had been a little less… violent?).

Cayenne & chocolate are perfect together. Whenever I make brownies or anything chocolate, I add some cayenne or other chile. Dagoba (?) makes a dark chocolate bar with ancho chile in it that is do delicious. Check out Hello Yarn’s blog (she also sells some great sock yarn at her on-line shop). She posted the recipe for Aztec Hot Chocolate mix (with ancho chile) that kicks ass.
mmmmm…. spicy chocolate.
The violent kitty-induced frogging doesn’t sound fun though, even if it was due to be frogged anyway. I’m not sure how, but my kitties have learned to leave the yarn alone for the most part. They still sniff it occasionally, and one of them has decided she likes the alpaca (and will walk off with an entire ball of it in her mouth) but they’ve never bothered the WIPs.
Gee, I didn’t even know you could get unpasteurized milk in the US (unless you had your own cow). . . shows how much I know!
No raw milk for us, as it’s illegal to cross state borders with unpasteurized dairy products (and D.C. is not big enough for cow pastures). But we do get unhomogenized milk at our weekly farmers’ market.
I’m sorry the cats had to be called in to take out your knitting. That’s a rough pattern!
I’ve been meaning to make some chocolate chip cookies. Maybe I’ll throw some cayenne into the mix and make my Cinco de Mayo cookies early!
Your kitchen is great. It makes me want to bake. I did make cookies last night though… Does the milk really taste different?
Awesome kitchen revamp! And YUM those cookies look good… dunked in that unpasteurized milk, is what I’m thinking!
Must. Have. That. Recipe!
LOL - the kitties just KNEW. Hey, they were doing a service, no reason not to have some fun… I have a very tangled skein of black Meilenweit that somehow fell off my shelf. Ack…
Don’t you just love IKEA? They are a miracle in my mind. Your kitchen looks great! You are so much calmer about the kitty attack than I would be. I would have freeked out no matter how much I didn’t think the pattern was working.
i love your kitchen! it looks great. and those cookies look yummy too…i have a thing for spicy chocolate: there’s a mexican chocolate cake that i make a lot, and i have spicy hot chocolate as well. it’s such a good combination!
