While you were out…

… or rather, while I wasn’t posting — there was a lot of knitting going on.

[Pardon the photo… I took it last night in the bathroom mirror. Still trying to figure out how to do self-portraits with knit-wear]
Pattern: Purl Beret (thanks to Melissa for turning me on to the project)
Yarn: Collinette Jitterbug in “Tuscany” courtesy of Kirsten
Needles: Clover Bamboo dpns, US 3
Thoughts: I love, love, love this yarn, but after trying several sock patterns, none of them were working. Besides, I wasn’t feeling the sock love (this was a few weeks ago — all that’s changed now). I’ve been wanting a beret recently and I thought this yarn would really shine in something larger than a pair of socks. I was right. I heart it muchly.
On the pattern — it doesn’t have as much structure in the brim as I feel a beret should. It has a tendency to look a leeetle like a hippie hat (and as much as I respect the choice of others to be hippies, it sure as hell ain’t my thing!). But, worn at the correct angle with the right amount of sass, and it works out just peachy. I wore it out today, now that the cold and wind have kicked up again, and it made me feel down right saucy.

[please note that the absolutely pleased look on my face is only partly due to my fabulous hat. This morning I forgot that I parked my car in a two hour spot when I got home late last night. I raced out, convinced I would have a ticket (I was, afterall, two hours late in moving it) and found none. Hurrah!].
In other knitting…

The foot and toe of a pair of knee-highs. I figure I’ll knit the foot of both and then can work my way up the leg as I feel it.

A scarf I started in November. I worked on it on the flight to Hawaii and kinda dropped it after that. I’m feeling the scarf love again and now I’m working my way through the second skein (Blue Sky Alpaca Silk. Yum.).

And in honor of a new set of colors for Project Spectrum, the perfect yarn in the perfect pattern (Ampersand in Cherry Tree Hill “Monet”).
And, for those still interested, there are still 9 slots left for the Sound Swap. If it fills up quickly, I’ll consider expanding the swap group. I’d hate to exclude people. So post there or here and let me know if you’re interested, or e-mail at twinknitATgmailDOTcom.
I had a lot of trouble with the Jitterbug - it wanted to do odd color things that I didn’t want it to do. Cozy socks, tho. Your beret is great! Does your camera have a self-portrait timer? That’s the lifesaver for me.
Mmmm… purple scarf…
so you decided you were a beret kind of gal afterall! it looks great on you and that yarn is perfect.
YAY! I love the hat! A perfect choice for the yarn!
Look at all the knitting! Love it. And so jealous since my time hasn’t been my own lately :o(
BTW, I found a wee tripod at Target that I use and love. It is small enough to take in my bag which is an added bonus. I can do self portraits by setting it on a counter or tabletop or photo my handknit socks by placing it low. Works great!
I recognized the yarn right away and thought, “I wish I wanted a beret, because the yarn looks so good!” Excellent project choice, and it does indeed look sassy (not hippie) on you.
And thanks for the “through the loops” link. More sock patterns!
Ooh! I’m really digging the PS socks!
Looks fabulous! The knitting mojo is strong with you these days!
You look so campus-chic in that beret!
What a perfect match! That colorway was meant to be a beret! nice job!
