Mittens!

Pattern: Target Wave Mittens, by Norah Gaughn (from Interweave Fall ‘06, although it’s also in Knitting Nature)
Yarn: Malabrigo worsted in “Frost Gray” and “Red Mahogany” (not even half a skein of either color)
Needles: Clover US 5 and Latern Moon US 8, straights for both
Thoughts: Well… A good, serious blocking did the trick with these. They were looking awfully wonky in the thumb “gusset” before. That said, I think the construction is interesting but there are some things I’d like to change — there are too many stitches to pick up in the gusset. The decreases happen too slowly. And while it was interesting to construct a mitten flat, I think they might look tidier if they were knit in the round. I’m tempted to knit the pattern again in the round with some mods to see what happens. But that’s for another day. For now, these are going in the gift-prep for next year. Jennie: 1; Christmas: nothing!
Woo-hoo!! You triumphed. They are interesting looking.
love the colors you used! do you have a picture of them on hands? i’m curious about their shape and how they would fit. i’ve never seen mittens like that before, but i like the idea of them!
They turned out so cute! I had knit mine in the round (switching to flat knitting where the big thumb-hole is), but then you have to worry about the stripe jogs looking wonky.
Oooh, I should really get going on Christmas. After the Chuppah . . .
Congratulations on finishing them! I really like how the colors work together.
Oh you are kicking Christmas shopping’s ass! I need to get on that, too.
And how cute are those mittens? (Very.)
The way this year is flying by, it pays to think about Christmas gifts now! Good for you! They are very cute~
Way to go! I love that you’ve already got one up on Ole Saint Nick. And thanks for the idea for my leftover Malabrigo. Perfect!
So pretty! The colors you picked are awesome!
lovely mittens - great in that yarn. did you have any trouble with the pattern? I am up to ’shape fingertip target’ and think that it should say RS, not WS.
