August Autumn
Aug 22nd, 2007 by jennie
Like much of the east coast, it’s been deliciously cool in Philadelphia these past few days. Unfortunately, that coolness has been accompanied by a lot of rain. The gloom has made photography difficult, but today I gave up and took pictures anyway. Because I had to prove to you all that I have been knitting.

I present you with my very first knee sock. I love it. There are mistakes. There are things I would change if I could. The striping is insane and more than a little impractical. I really could care less. Now I just need to finish the second one!

Last weekend, I went with the boy to Lancaster, the county of his raising. Although it’s a short drive from Philadelphia, I’ve never made the trip there until now. I loved it. On Saturday morning, we went to the Central Market. The weather was perfect — sunny and crisp (I was actually cold for the first time in ages. I almost forgot what it felt like!) — and the market was incredible. I took many pictures.

The boy ran into some friends from high school and one of them jokingly said to him: “Your girlfriend is taking pictures of vegetables. Where is she from?” See what blogging has done to me?
Of course, no trip to Lancaster is complete without a stop here:

Sounds like an utterly divine weekend. I’m jealous!
fantastic sock, good luck with the second one (dum de dum dum…)
Love the farmer’s market pictures - snap away, the future anthropologists will thank you for the wealth of information bloggers have left them about the beginning of the 21st century.
So is that one full skein for the first sock, then? It looks fantastic. I don’t think the stripes are too much… particularly if they were peeking out over the tops of some tall boots, perhaps.
Great socks - I agree with Stella - those would look perfect with a pair of tall boots to start autumn. Good luck with #2. Like the farmers market pics too.
Cute sock! I’m dreaming of autumn, and knee socks fit right into my fall fantasies.
Stripey!! The sock looks great! You got some great pictures - love the comment that you received about the vegetable photography.
I love the socks! They’re not too stripey at all.
Yay for Lancaster and yay for vegetables! I keep taking pictures of the ones at my local farmers’ market (and hell, I grew up in a small-town/farming community) just because the colors are so beautiful.
And also, yay for the cool weather! Bring on the scarves! (although not really, because it’s supposed to be near 90 tomorrow.)
Gosh, I miss the east coast!
Hi Jennie–great photos of the market goodies…and thanks for the props/linkage a few posts back! The comments on my weblog actually do work, but not for the particular post on which you wanted to comment. Go figure!
i think it’s perfectly normal to take pictures of veggies!
and i love your sock - someday i’ll be brave enough to tackle knee highs…for now, it takes me months to finish just normal socks, so knee highs seem impossible. but yours is lovely!
I love the sock and I mean LOVE! That striping is by no means ubsurd! I think it’s perfection!!!!
I love your pictures. It always feels like a little mini vacation!
