One fish, two fish…

Green “fish,” Blue “fish”

A friend of mine (a non-knitter friend and a boy at that!) asked me the other day if I had posted any actual knitting content on my blog recently. Embarassed, I said I had not (although, upon closer inspection, I totally have! Read the blog more often, Matt!) and promised a knitterly post asap. And so I show you what I have been consumed with this week — syllabizing (yes, I’m a grad student, I’m allowed to make up words), grading, and knitting these socks. The blue sock I cannot show you unless you go here [sorry for the Ravelry-less among you, but this is the best place to post about gift related knitting]. The green sock is new, a demonstration of what you can accomplish in 1.5 mornings in the doctor’s office.
I wanted something interesting, but also something I could abandon at any minute should my name be called. Enter my modified Anastasia socks (only one round of eyelets per swirl — I’m not much for lacey socks).

This photo does the yarn no justice. It’s a beautiful greeny-grey skein of Claudia’s handpainted, the last skein of yarn I bought before the yarn diet started last March. I’ve been waiting for the right project and I think this is perfect. I wish, in retrospect, that I had followed Minty’s pattern more closely. I doubted that 60 stitches would be big enough, and so cast on for 64. Now I think it’s a smidge loose, but not enough to justify ripping. And, in case you haven’t noticed, I think I might be converted to short row heels and knitting socks toe up.
As for my head — Thanks for your kind words to my last post. It’s been kind of a crazy week. Yesterday they diagnosed the headaches (or, better put, one constant headache) I’ve been having as a migraine, my very first. To be honest, I’m actually relieved. Not only do I finally have something to make the headache go away, but I’m relieved to know that it is reasonably treatable [originally, they thought I’d had an aneurysm — that was scary! Hopefully, though, I’ll get the pictures from my MRI. That might make it all worth it — I’ve never seen my brain!]. For the first time in over a week, I feel like a reasonable, pleasant, and alert person. Of course, that could just be the 70 degree weather…
Glad to hear you are not seriously broken - migraine treatment is pretty good these days. That yarn is gorgeous - they are going to be great socks!
i’m glad to hear you’re feeling better! nothing like a health scare to make you feel not quite yourself.
and that is beautiful yarn! i love that pattern too - it’s just the right amount of lacy.
So glad to hear you’re feeling a bit more normal. Migraines suck, but it’s certainly much better than the alternative. And getting to see your brain is so exciting! I’ll get to see mine soon when I’m a pilot subject for an MRI study we’re doing.
The socks look beautiful — and aptly named. Isnt’ Ravelry great for hiding gifts from non-knitters?
Good to have a diagnosis!! Migraines aren’t fun, but they’ve really come out with some great meds in the last 10 years.
Gorgeous sock!
Brains are very cool on MRI - definitely get the photos!
The socks a really pretty! Love the colors. And I’m really glad to hear that your medical issues are treatable. Hugs!
So glad to hear you went to the doctor & you are OK. I have migranes myself & while finding out you have them isn’t great it is great to have something to get rid of them!
The socks are looking fine! Glad to see them!
