It depends how lacy you want it, I suppose. I love so many of Evelyn Clark's designs, particularly Leaf Lace and the Shetland Triangle, but they're both pretty dense as lace goes.

I've also been eyeing Frost Flowers and Leaves from A Gathering of Lace.

i think the summer lace shawlette from the summer 2006 IK is really pretty. i've seen a few in blogs that turned out just stunning. although...it's not knit in a laceweight yarn. but still, it's lovely!

There's always the Print O' The Wave by Eunny Jang, which is free, or the Kimono Shawl from Folk Shawls, or the Bird's Nest Shawl from the same book. I also like the Flirty Ruffles Shawl and Peacock Feathers from Fiddlesticks Knitting. Any of these would make a wonderful gift.

I love Evelyn Clark's Shetland Triangle, and I think that it would be really lovely as a wedding shawl...Good luck with choosing the pattern!

I agree that Leaf Lace would be a lovely choice - I've also always been a fan of the Meadow Flowers shawl from Knitter's Stash - lovely!

My first lace shawl was the Yarn Harlot's Snowdrop Shawl. It's free and interesting to knit. You can make it any size you like since you start from the bottom point. You can also do the edging or elect not to (like I did) so it's a great pattern for working until you run out of yarn.

I made Kiri this year and was very happy with it. It's fairly easy to memorize and pretty adjustable depending on your yarn and yardage. Interesting but not totally boring. Perhaps good for someone with a lot on their plate. :) Hope you find a good one!
